Ads on Maps

Who can advertise on Apple Maps

The short answer

You need a physical location customers can visit in the US or Canada, a business address in one of those countries, and a verified Apple Business profile. Home services, bail bonds, and cryptocurrency ATMs are blocked entirely.

Apple Maps advertising has a narrower door than most ad platforms. Before you invest a single hour in setup, check that you can walk through it.

The three requirements

1. A physical location customers can visit. Ads on Apple Maps promote places. If your business has no address a customer could turn up at, this platform is not built for you. Online-only businesses, and services that exist only at the customer's address, do not fit.

2. A business address in the US or Canada. Advertising is available in the United States, excluding American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands, and in Canada. Nowhere else, yet.

3. A verified profile in Apple Business. Apple Business is free. Verification is what proves the location is really yours. Phone verification is instant; other methods can take up to 5 business days.

Meet all three and you are eligible, subject to category rules.

Categories Apple blocks entirely

These cannot advertise on Apple Maps at all:

  • Home services, which Apple defines broadly: plumbing, electrical, locksmith, HVAC, pest control, roofing, and general contracting.
  • Bail bonds.
  • Cryptocurrency ATMs.

The home services exclusion surprises people, because it is one of the biggest categories in local advertising and Google permits it. If you are a plumber or an electrician, Apple Maps advertising is closed to you today, and no agency can open it.

Categories reviewed case by case

Medical services are assessed individually rather than approved or refused as a class. Expect to be looked at rather than waved through, and expect the review to care about what exactly you are advertising.

Categories that can advertise, with extra rules

Alcohol, gambling, and dating businesses can run ads, but face additional restrictions. If you are in one of these, read Apple's current advertising policies carefully before you build creative, because the restrictions typically shape what the ad can say and where it can run.

What "physical location" means in practice

The test is whether a customer can go there. A restaurant, a gym, a clinic, a shop, a hotel, a salon, a garage, a gallery: all clearly yes.

Harder cases:

  • Businesses inside other businesses. A counter inside a supermarket may or may not qualify as its own claimable location. Claim it and find out.
  • Appointment-only offices. If it has an address and customers come to it, it generally fits.
  • Service businesses with a base of operations. Having an office is not the same as customers visiting it. This is where a lot of the home services logic bites.
  • Seasonal or pop-up locations. They need to exist as claimable locations for the period you want to advertise.

If you are genuinely unsure, the cheap answer is to claim the location in Apple Business and see whether it verifies. That costs nothing.

Multiple locations

You can advertise all of your locations, or a specific subset. With the advanced tools, locations can be grouped by rules, so a chain can manage every store in one city or a whole set of franchises as a unit, and read results per location.

The catch is that every location you want to advertise has to be claimed and verified individually. Ten locations means ten verifications. If you have many locations and a deadline, start now. The launch credit deadline is October 11, 2026.

If someone else manages your listings

Apple supports third parties. A business owner delegates access from inside Apple Business by signing in as an Organization Administrator or Marketing Administrator, going to Settings, then Integrations, then Partner Access, selecting Share Access, entering the partner's Organization ID, choosing Ads on Maps, selecting which brands the partner may manage, and sending an invitation.

Access is granted per brand and can be withdrawn. You are not handing over your business, only the ability to run ads for it.

Quick self check

Answer these:

  1. Can a customer walk into my business at an address?
  2. Is that address in the US, excluding American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands, or in Canada?
  3. Is my category outside home services, bail bonds, and cryptocurrency ATMs?
  4. Can I verify the location in Apple Business?

Four yeses and you can advertise. If you got a no on the third and you are in medical services, you are in the review lane rather than the refusal lane.
